According to American Trucking Association, over half a million drivers are needed each year for the next decade. With the growing of the Transportation Industry, there is a high demand for professional truck drivers. Odessa College offers a five-week course of classroom instruction, basic Street driving, and application of skills used in the operation of a tractor-trailer. Starting salaries for long-distance professional truck drivers can average $45,000 per year. Our classes, which consist of up to 200 hours, include classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction, as well as screening to help qualify our trained drivers for employment. Students who successfully complete the entire course will receive a certificate of completion, be eligible to test for their Class "A" Commercial Driver License (CDL), and be qualified to secure an entry-level job as a Commercial Motor Vehicle driver. Odessa College does not guarantee that the Texas Department of Public Safety will issue a license.
